Signal in the DNS that your domainis for sale.
Create and verify _for-sale TXT records according to RFC 10023 – with setup guides for your DNS provider. The DNS solely signals selling intent; negotiations, payments, escrow, and domain transfer occur outside this tool.
# Querying domain sale data directly via DNS:
$ dig TXT _for-sale.forsaledns.net +short
"v=FORSALE1;furi=mailto:sales@sun.com.py"
"v=FORSALE1;fval=USD195000"
DNS Node: _for-sale.forsaledns.net.
DNSSEC: AD-Bit = false (Not validated)
Status: IETF RFC 10023 (Informational)
What do you want to do?
Choose your starting point – straight to the right tool.
Create or verify a record
You want to signal that a single domain is for sale. Generate a spec-compliant RFC 10023 DNS record or check whether an existing record is correctly formatted.
Scan multiple domains
You manage a portfolio of domains and want to see at a glance which ones have RFC 10023 records and how conformant they are.
Specification & API
You are building tooling, a registrar service, or want to integrate RFC 10023 technically. Read the full IETF specification or use our public REST API.
RFC 10023 (Category: Informational, July 2026, author: Marco Davids, SIDN Labs) describes an operational convention for signaling that a domain is offered for sale through a DNS record at the reserved _for-sale.[domain] node. DNS is used solely to publish the sale signal. Negotiation, payment, escrow and transfer of ownership take place entirely outside DNS and outside this portal.
Inspect DNS For-Sale Status
Real-time DNS query and format validation according to RFC 10023 standards.
Generate DNS For-Sale TXT Records
RFC 10023 Section 2.2.4: Price is indicative and non-binding. Conforms to currency + amount syntax.
Copying these records only generates the DNS syntax. The record becomes active only after you add it as a TXT record in your registrar's or DNS provider's zone editor.
; RFC 10023 Zonefile for example.com
; Node name: _for-sale.example.com. | Type: TXT | TTL: 3600
_for-sale.example.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=FORSALE1;fval=USD2500"Why DNS-based signaling replaces conventional domain parking
Instant discovery during Whois and registrar availability queries
Previously, buyers had to visit a web browser to discover if a domain was for sale. RFC 10023 moves this discovery layer directly into DNS resolution:
Traditional Parking vs. RFC 10023
Registry SIDN (.nl) checks RFC 10023 on availability lookups
The official .nl registry SIDN automatically queries the _for-sale TXT node during domain searches. If a .nl domain is listed for sale, the price and contact URI appear directly inside the registrar results.
RFC 10023 is Already in Use
Registries, domain intelligence services, scanners, and developer tools already support the _for-sale DNS record.

Technical Background: Why do some hosters reject underscores?
Historically, the standard for hostnames (RFC 1035 / RFC 1123) only permitted characters [a-z0-9-]. However, the Domain Name System protocol itself allows arbitrary octets under RFC 2181. For service records and global attributes, the IETF formalized underscored leaf nodes in RFC 8552 (such as _dmarc, _domainkey, and now _for-sale). Modern DNS providers support this fully; older control panels still erroneously validate input against strict hostname syntax.
"The existence of a domain name does not necessarily imply that it cannot be obtained; it may still be available for sale. RFC 10023 provides a simple method to explicitly signal in the DNS that a domain is for sale."

Methodology & Transparency: Lookups execute client-side via DNS over HTTPS (DoH) using recursive anycast resolvers (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 / Google 8.8.8.8). Responses reflect authoritative nameserver TTLs; recently modified records may be cached temporarily. All record builders enforce wire-format length constraints (max. 255 bytes per character-string per RFC 1035).
